High Risk Breast Clinic

No, it is designed for women who have been identified as potentially “high risk” due to specific factors. During your initial visit, we will take an in-depth look at your risk percentage and develop an imaging surveillance plan that suits your individual needs.

The Benign Breast Clinic at Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center provides care to women who have an abnormal mammogram, breast lump, nipple discharge, unusual breast pain or other breast concerns. The Advance Practice Providers within the breast surgical team provide evaluations quickly, and diagnose and treat a full range of breast health issue. Often times, patients are identified as having an increased risk of developing breast cancer and will be referred to the High Risk Breast Screening and Prevention Clinic once their initial breast concern is evaluated and treated.

Depending on personal and family history, some women benefit from increased screening, possibly starting as young as age 25. There may be other risk-reducing measures available as well.

Your visit may occur independently of your mammogram. If you are due for a mammogram now, do not delay it. During your visit, we will order any additional imaging if deemed appropriate.

Your visit will include a detailed review of your personal and family history. Should it be determined that genetic testing is warranted, we will coordinate an evaluation with our certified genetic counselors.

This will be determined during your initial consultation. The outcome of your personalized risk assessment will determine when or if followup appointments are recommended.

This visit may be covered by your insurance, but coverage depends on your individual plan and whether the visit qualifies as a covered service. If covered, your usual co-pay and deductible will apply. We recommend checking with your insurance provider before your appointment to confirm your benefits.
