Social Work for Patients
A cancer diagnosis is a life-changing event that often creates new concerns for patients, their caregivers, families and friends. Our clinical social workers are available to help you and your family cope with the social and emotional changes caused by cancer and assist in overcoming any barriers to your treatment.

Counseling
Professionally trained in counseling, clinical social workers provide short-term counseling free of charge. Your social worker can help you with:
- Adjustment to diagnosis and treatment
- Substance abuse
- Coping with life changes
- Caregiver fatigue / distress
- Depression / anxiety / grief / signs of emotional distress
- Limited support system
- Parenting / talking to children about diagnosis
- Cultural sensitivity
- Advocacy
- Domestic violence / interpersonal conflict
Resources
Our social worker can also serve as a liaison between you, the health care system and the community. Based on your specific needs, your social worker can help identify resources and provide assistance regarding:
- Lodging and housing (short-term and long-term)
- Hospice care
- Transportation
- Financial support programs
- Cancer related resources
- Advance care planning/advance directives
- Community support programs
- Employment / school difficulty
