  Exceptional on every level! Dr Shaw himself and every single person I encountered in the office and OR Suite was engaged and knowledgeable in regards to every step of my care. Efficient is an understatement and when in severe acute pain, time is of the essence. I willingly travel the 2 hour round trip to be cared for by Lyerly!

  Heather was very professional and took her time explaining my MRI's. Dr. Shaw came in afterwards and went into even more details about my imaging and the procedure he recommended. I never felt rushed and had plenty of time to ask my questions. Erica coordinated my surgery info and was very pleasant. Michelle was also very responsive and helpful in getting me in to see Dr. Shaw. 10/10 would recommend to family and friends.

  I like the Dr Shaw very much. I liked him when I saw him in the emergency room & his decision about what I needed & later after I was admitted. Erica is very good & her scheduling is excellent. The only thing I don???t like is location with the parking at Baptist Hospital, very inconvenient especially for the elderly patients.

  Everyone was extremely welcoming. Dr. Shaw was very straight forward, patient and caring. We are especially grateful to Erika. I have been trying to get this problem diagnosed and treated for 3 months while being in extreme pain and stopped most of my daily activities. Erika told us 1st available surgery date was February 20th.....six weeks out. When she saw my dismay, she looked at her schedule again and said she might see a "fit" on January 16th, but she'd have to do some shuffling and get back with me. And she did....by the end of the day!

  I have always had great experiences with Lyerly. I had neck surgery in 2916. All visits, staff and Dr were top notch. Returning for eval for lower back and leg pain. Again, staff were top notch. Met my new Dr dealing with my new pains. Dr Garcia has retired. Dr Shaw was very pleasant. He took time with me. He didn???t suggest surgery. He honestly said that at this point, he couldn???t do much for me, which was a relief. He didn???t make me feel rushed or talk over my head. I would highly recommend him and Lyerly.

  It was seamless experience. I was placed in a room shortly after arrival and Dr Shaw arrived soon after. I really appreciated the large screens for viewing my MRI. Dr Shaw made it crystal clear what my problem was and suggested options for me to consider. I didn???t feel pressured and he took great care to make sure my husband and I were thoroughly informed. After leaving Dr Shaw, we went to check out with Erica, his medical assistant. She was kind and patient. I had to call the next day with a few follow up questions, and she got me in touch with Melissa (I believe) who answered all questions that I had and was equally patient. 10/10

  I agree with other reviews about 2 flaws. Parking is very far. I've been a Lyerly patient since 2007. The old parking tower was so convenient. But I doubt parking falls under their purview. The other complaint I read is they don't run on time. I imagine it's hard to predict the real time needed per patient, especially given the complicated nature of our neurological problems. My appointment ran 45 minutes late today. But Dr. Shaw didn't rush me. He answered all my questions. I got the information I needed.Asking us to be there 20 minutes early should be reconsidered. One time Dr. Garcia's nurse apologized. She said he had been right next door with that patient for an hour. I just felt grateful that I didn't need an hour for my appointment. He retired ????. But I am trusting Dr. Shaw with my life as I trusted him. Lyerly has the best.

  The Neurosurgeon Dr. Shaw was talking at a rate of one hundered words per minute. I did not quite understand what he was saying except that he thought may be surgery, remove Discs, go thru my neck, possibility of losing my voice, etc. I was afraid as I did not quite understand why or what would happen if I did not choose surgery. I am sure he is a great surgeon but he assumed that I understood what he was talking about. I am going to try to see a different doctor may be some one who can patiantley explain in details what is required to stop the pain in my left arm.

  Dr Shaw and his team have been fantastic!! From my consultation to 12 week post-op appt, the process has been smooth and thorough.   I greatly appreciated the honest and knowledgeable approach that doctor A Shaw of Lyerly Group took with my reherniation case.   I feel like Dr. Shaw is practicing medicine 2.0., not 3.0 (Attia). He obliviously feels that since my condition doesn???t warrant surgery, I should just chalk it up to old age & be satisfied. He did agree to a physical therapy consult. We shall see if PT has the same attitude. Having a long, HEALTHFUL life should be the goal. He did correctly point out to me that fasting/calorie deprivation is a known strategy for prolonging life, which is one of my strategies that could use improvement. In all fairness, it is just not Dr. Shaw. The majority of the medical establishment treats symptoms & are not oriented towards maximizing health (2.0 vs 3.0 medicine).

  Waited almost 2 months for the appointment. I was told to get all of my old MRI's. Just to be told "we need new scans".They knew I needed new MRI's before my appointment.   For the most part my visit to Lyerly was pleasant. The office seems well-managed. The front desk staff is efficient, friendly and aware of the issues of their clients. Andrew Shaw seems to be easy going, well versed in his practice, and relaxed about his work. His presentation covered all of the bases for determining the extent of my issues. That said, I would not be inclined to choose him to do the surgery because his presentation was delivered so quickly that I came away feeling that he was in a hurry to get out of the room. I did not feel that he wanted to deal with my concerns. As a result my mind went blank to questions that bothered me and I was happy to leave there without extending the interview.

  The walk required between P2 parking garage ( where there are less handicap parking spaces than Walmart) and the Weaver Tower is absurdly and poorly planned for folks with neuro disabilities. Wheelchair accessibility is equally impossible, especially if there are two disabled spouses. As for meeting with Dr Andrew Shaw for about ???5 minutes??? after I finally made my arduous trek to the tower, I left there feeling hopeless and not heard at all. By the time I made my way back to my car, I was in tears. His summary was already in my portal by the time I arrived home. His summary did not reflect my session with him. As an aside, he claimed examining me in multiple ways and making statements about my health that were not correct. All he ???examined??? was the strength of my hand grip and the usual ???push/pull??? of my arms, knees, and feet. Other references to any other findings were unfounded??????most notably that I wasn???t wheezing. My COPD wheezing is almost constant and is audible. However, had he used a stethoscope, he could have confirmed it. My takeaway yesterday was that despite the cervical and lumbar MRI findings, he couldn???t help me because he believed my issues were muscular atrophy and recommended rehab. Granted, my presenting issues in my lumbar area is more about weakness that extends into my legs, but he missed hearing me say how painful my neck is and how immobile it is and has been for years. Point in fact, I was referred to Dr Cannestra over 12-13 years ago for my neck pain and he recommended surgery ???..and at the time, I believe he was considering fusion of a couple of discs. I was unable to consider surgery because at the time, my husband was traveling internationally for business and was out of the country 75-80% of the time making it a difficult issue of having a caretaker. Finally, he is reliably home and I can plan to get some of my life back, but that hope was extinguished yesterday. I was originally planning to see Dr Bradley Wallace??????.I was told he could do a telemed conference in mid July. My primary physician then put a referral in for Dr Shaw. Meanwhile, Dr Hanel who had just done my carotid endarterectomy belatedly offered to help and ???got me hooked up??? with Dr Wallace sooner ?????????a telephone call in between surgeries??? tomorrow 4/13/2023??? but I haven???t now had any confirmations it can be expected to happen. My abiding question remains?????? what did Dr Cannestra see years ago that doesn???t show now?

I guess some patients may not do their ppwk early and/or may not be in the Baptist MyChart system, but I was.   My concern is that it took months to get to the point that I got to see the surgeon and he was 45 minutes and towards the end of our time together, I could tell he was rushed and needed to move onto the next patient. I am not sure what happened, but it's not fair to patients or doctors when the patient is still trying to figure out questions and the doctor is trying to move onto the next person.

  I liked Dr. Andrew Shaw and the fact that he educated me on my MRI results by showing me the disc on the lighted viewer. I was greatly relieved to visually see that my bulging discs were very slight in fact. He explained the results and was reassuring about the health of my spine. I am anticipating physical therapy to address the muscle weakness in my low back that is contributing to my discomfort when sitting.

  Dr Shaw did the wrong surgery on me. He was supposed to do a microdiscectomy and he did a laminectomy. I didn???t even know until I had an mri done and the radiologist pointed it out. Then I looked at my health insurance billing only to find out they also billed me for a laminectomy. Then it took 4 weeks to get an appointment with him again. They kept saying they can???t schedule me until the imaging place gives them the report. Finally my wife had to take it to them in person. Then I finally get the appointment with Dr Shaw and he surprisingly ???had an emergency come up??? and didn???t show. So his nurse Heather shows up 45 min late for the appointment and proceeded to tell me they did both surgeries on me. Radiologist and other professionals in the practice say otherwise. All I wanted was a refund for all the money I spent on the surgery. I could walk away with that and just do my best in PT to try and start feeling better. All his nurse would offer me is a free surgery. I???m very upset and I hurt worse than I did before the surgery. I heard so many great things about Lyerly. Which is why I chose them. Unfortunately I got the worst Surgeon in the practice. Even the reviews show that. So outside of refunding all of the money I spent on this surgery, there isn???t anything else you can do.   I have been waiting for 5 long months (physical therapy, deep tissue Massage, Xrays & MRI) to eliminate the severe excruciating pain in my shoulders as the result of two degenerative disk. I was very happy to finally schedule a C4-C6 fusion procedure & have a consult with the surgeon (Andrew Shaw). The surgeon spoke very fast as if he was reading from a script and implied that the surgery was only 90 minutes and not very impactive and that I go home the same day. The consult lasted all of 5 minutes. Recovery time or time away from sports and work was never discussed. In addition, left and right jugular vein, trachea, left and right carotid artery, left and right vagus nerve, left and right vertebral artery must be relocated to perform surgery and did not discuss possible injury to them from this procedure along accidentally injuring the spinal cord. I am very uncomfortable with making a critical life altering decision having Andrew Shaw as my surgeon. With much disappointment I asked admin (Erika Jones) for another surgeon as to which I was quickly denied. She said you must wait one year for a referral to another surgeon. I am now back at square one again with the waiting period which is unbearable.

  PROMPT & EASY TO WORK WITH -Quick return call by Lyerly rep "Dinah" in response to my 3/30/22 request for a review of my cervical MRI actioned by an appointment on 4/4/22 with Dr. Andrew Shaw within 4 days. When I arrived, as scheduled with no delay Lyerly office staff had me provide insurance info and medical history information. I was then promptly seen by nurse who took my vitals, then seen by Dr. Shaw who spent a solid 25 minutes discussing my condition presented, he walked me through the MRI on video screen. He then laid out his plan of action for neck surgery of c3-4 & c4-5, explained the full procedure, the risks, and the recovery. Dr. Shaw very professional as expected, but his easy to understand detailed explanations and illustrations answered every question I had. He then introduced me to "Erica" to schedule the surgery for 4/20/22. Erica processed Insurance pre-authorization issues with me and pharmacy information and set a post op appointment for 5/5/22. LYERLY HAS MADE DEALING WITH A MAJOR NECK SURGERY AS CALM AND COMFORTABLE A PROCESS AS POSSIBLE. THIS MAKES ME CONFIDENT LYERLY NEUROSURGERY IS BEST CHOICE FOR ME -Stephen Anderson

  From the time you walk in and get greeted to the Dr's staff the people are very friendly and professional. They treat you like a friend and take the complete frea of being there in the first place.   The Doctors at Lyerly are top notch Neurosurgeons. They are highly qualified, professional, compassionate, and skilled physicians. I've had to have multiple surgeries since 2015, the first three with Dr Petr, and the fourth one with Dr Shaw. I've been completely satisfied with my care given to me each time. I have complete trust in my Surgeon's knowledge, diagnosis, and decision as to the best course of treatment for my care. The Staff are also professional, courteous, and compassionate. Though I've only been seen and treated by Dr Petr and Dr Shaw, other patients, including a couple I know personally, have also had nothing but great things to say about the other Surgeons as well. Anyone needing to be seen and treated by a Neurosurgeon should definitely choose the Lyerly group, and trust them with their care.

  I was very pleased with the Doctor's assessment of my condition, and the simple way he explained things to me. I also appreciate that things were not as the radiologist had overstated (much more serious), and that I will only need to follow up with some physical therapy. I arrived very early for my appointment prepared to wait, but the staff was able to get me in to see the Doctor almost immediately, which also saved me a couple of additional hours that day. Then when I spoke to Dr. Shaw, he spoke so fast that I felt he was trying to hurry me out of the office to meet with the next person.   Well, I waited month to see a neurologist but left with no clear understanding of my back problem. I was only informed about what it wasnt...but not what was causing the pain. The words " Youre back is not that bad" conflict with what I've been told over the last few months. A five minute conversation that relegates the mri to simply eggargerateed doesnt exactly give me confidence in the diagnosis...particular when my current physician told me yesterday that I probably would never walk upright again due to stenosis and arthritis. I'm not looking for surgery necessarilly. I'm looking for options. The clinic I was referred to for an emg never called. It sounds like everyone is too busy. I unxerstand that completely. What can you do to fix this? Tell me what is causing the pain and how I can help myself to move beyond this condition. Surely, losing weight isn't my only option though I agree that will help. Thats why I have lost 50 pounds. "Lose 50 more" (and call me in the morning) isn't exactly helpful. What exercises can I perform when I cant even stand for 3 minutes without a walker? I received nothing more than an anatomy lesson (which was helpful) and a limited undertanding of how to proceed. I'm not complaining...This is entirely an FYI for future reference...You asked. I normally despise taking surveys!

My only problem is that it needs more signage as a person can get lost. The two ladies at the entry just pointed to us where to go. We walked until we were in day care and found out we had not stopped at the desk that said cardiology. That was the problem it should say something else if you are there for back surgery.   Doctor Shaw talk to me in terms it was not familiar with I had to ask you to repeat things multiple times it's a lot of information to take in when you're not used to it And unfortunately I felt like he kind of talked down to me although I'm sure that was not his intention having to ask him to repeat things multiple times without little uncomfortable it is what it is the best part of the whole session was that I said I did not need to have surgery which I was happy to hear although I was had no intentions of having surgery it heard great things about the liar league group it would just probably be better to meet with a doctor who has more experience

  Very professional. However, I wasn???t happy that the doctor I saw requisitioned an X-ray done after my exam at the hospital imaging center where there were at least 25 people waiting ahead of me. I waited for over an hour and there were at least 20 people still ahead of me. I had other things to do that day and had to leave without getting the X-ray. I???m guessing I would have been waiting there for another 2 or 3 hours if not longer. I could have gotten the X-ray done at my primary care doctor???s office with little to no waiting.

  The Intake and Front Desk staff are top notch. I wish you would let us know that there is a shuttle from the garage. I was almost unable to walk by the time I reached your floor. Also, until construction is completed, is there a wheelchair option to your floor? I am not sure I could revisit your floor as I come by myself and the walk from the entrance is brutal. Not that anyone will tell him, but Dr. Shaw speaks so quickly I had trouble following him. Content was super; presentation hard.

  Difficult to reach staff on the phone. The physician I was referred to only does Zoom calls, so I was referred to another physician since I wanted to actually see the doctor in-person. Once it was time for my appointment, they switched physicians on me again without notifying me after I already agreed to see a particular physician. That being said, the physician that saw me did a very quick and not very thorough neuro check on me sitting in a chair and basically told me there was nothing much he can do. He also appeared rushed and spoke very fast. I actually came to him for a second opinion, and he referred me back to my own neurologist. Wasted long trip and wasted my time. To add insult to injury, another patient picked up my x-rays off of someone???s desk and left with them, and my husband and I had to wait for the patient to return them back to the office. Just not a good experience.

  The check in process is lengthy. Would prefer an option to complete the very detailed questions in advance of the visit. There are some glitches in the tablet. The process for scrolling down to the bottom of a page is unclear. The page where you are to circle where pain is located is glitchy. Numbers rather than circling would be easier. Do you want pain and tingling scored the same? Right now they are not separated. Do not write my suggestions off as an older person that is not tech savvy. Just the opposite. I design computer systems and I am knowledgeable about usability. I would rate your system a 6 out of 10 on usability. That is significant because if the information entered is actually read, it is incorrect.

  Everyone was friendly and polite. Dr. Shaw took his time and explain what the MRI showed, explained the next procedure and when he examined me explain everything fully in laymen's term. His nurse made the appointments and explain the procedures that I had to take. Most of all she ordered a wheel chair for me to go back downstairs as I was in so much pain, I could hardly walk. My wait was only 5 minutes before being called into the office. Great!
